The UP Center for International Studies was established through the UP Board of Regents’ approval in its 1146th Meeting last 20 October 2000. It is an academic unit under the Office of the Chancellor and is headed by a Director.

To conduct multi/ interdisciplinary cross-cultural research.
To become a resource center for information on different countries.
To grant degrees on studies of specific countries in order to train and develop experts/specialists on countries of the world.
The UPCIS has three active area studies namely the European Studies, East and Southeast Studies, and Studies of the Americas. These area studies divisions are headed by its regular faculty as Coordinators. These coordinators also organize and gather different international and local scholars, researchers, and resource persons to form a team of teachers that conduct the Center’s general and elective courses.
