Our Area Studies

The UPCIS has three active area studies namely the European Studies, East and Southeast Studies, and Studies of the Americas. These area studies divisions are headed by its regular faculty as Coordinators. These coordinators also organize and gather different international and local scholars, researchers, and resource persons to form a team of teachers that conduct the Center’s general and elective courses.
Our Courses

Its research and extension work is highlighted by its vibrant and active collaborations with international universities and local institutions. Its most enduring partnerships are with Yokohama National University and Ferris University both in Yokohama, Japan, with whose Memoranda of Understanding and Agreement enabled the regular exchange of students in Japan and the Philippines.

Research & Publications

The Center’s collaboration-based research agenda includes regular research dissemination programs such as public lectures, public performances, organized conferences and round-table discussions, and film showings. Since 2023 the UPCIS has initiated the Consuelo Joaquin-Paz Memorial Lecture to commemorate its founding director, former College of Social Sciences and Philosophy Dean Paz. The UPCIS has also produced publications ranging from the research co-produced with its students to articles gathered for the Festschrift of Consuelo Paz. Our Resources
